client counseling

build rapport, boost success

overview

coaching you to coach your clients

How to coach clients to build their skills, increase their buy-in, and expand retention is our most frequently requested topic.  All the training acumen in the world is useless if we can’t effectively teach clients.

We have therefore created this affordable course – just $219 –  to guide behavior practitioners through this process with actionable detail, specific scripts for how to get concepts to stick, manage difficult interactions or pushback, and how to triage the myriad of issues dog owners will come to us with.

Jean Donaldson, Founder, Principal Instructor

Jean has long been a trailblazer in the world of dog training. Her groundbreaking book “The Culture Clash” was named the No. 1 dog training and behavior book by The Association of Pet Dog Trainers. In fact APDT founder Dr. Ian Dunbar described it as “simply the best dog book I have ever read” and one that “redefined the state of the art of dog-friendly dog training.”

Jean has authored many other books and lectured extensively all around the world. She is the go-to trainer for other trainers looking for guidance or case support and spent six years handling only aggression cases referred by other trainers. She continues to take cases involving Chow Chows with aggression issues.

You may be the most skilled trainer of dogs in the world, but without the ability to build rapport and get clients to do what they need to do in order to succeed on casework, you are a hobbyist, not a professional pet dog trainer.

This program will teach you how to organize the issues you are faced with on a case, how to write clear notes and bite-sized homework that is not overwhelming to the client, how to work with clients who have cognitive or mobility challenges, and much more. Here are just some of the topics you will be covering.

alumni comments

The course is designed in a very straightforward manner, the content is clear, easy to understand and navigate. The client counseling was a god-send; counseling is just as important as the training itself,
